Terms of Use

Welcome to A Terrible Sound. Listed here are some guidelines to help facilitate a community of sharing and critique. For the most part, these are simply to allow for open and honest discussion and submission without worry of reprisal or abuse. Intrinsic respect for each other is a good go-to in lieu of these guidelines.

Comments:


• Try to comment at least once on every submission in the interest of constructive criticism and improvement. This is a give-and-take community, and we ask that you submit for the purposes of review, as well as to review the works of others. Ideally, every submission should have at least one comment from every contributing member to cultivate an exchange of ideas and improvement.



• The comments are limited to discussion of submissions and responses to previous comments. Discussion of previous comments is, of course, encouraged. Anything tremendously non-sequitor to the subject at hand in any comment section should be brought up on the community message board: A Terrible Sound Listserver.



• We’re here to critique and to support. Constructive criticism is not only encouraged, but vitally necessary to our purpose. However, any kind of rudeness or inappropriate, non-constructive criticism will not be tolerated. Comments that offend, insult, or generally take away from the discussion in an overtly negative way will be removed at the discretion of the administrator.



• If something that offends you on the site, it is perfectly acceptable to include that in your comments. Offensiveness is a quality separate from artistic validity and possibility of improvement, and is important to acknowledge in critique so an artist may know how their work could be recieved. However, that should not be the entirety of your commentary. In your comments, try to delineate between the quality "offensive" and the other qualities the work possesses. Try not to discount a piece based on personal taste.


Submissions:


• The site holds to a weekly posting schedule, with an "official" posting day of Sunday. This is not, in any way, strictly enforced. It exists more to give incentive to our contributors to create and share, rather than to impose a deadline. Post as often as you'd like, as many times a week as you'd like. There is no limit.



• Any type of media is acceptable. We have, as of this writing, anything from prose to sketches, songs to stories, and we bar no form of artistic expression. Anything you've created that you consider art, please feel free to submit.



• In addition, there are no restrictions as to length, size, or level of completion (outside of logistical considerations outline in the Submission Guidelines section) on any work submitted. Post as much of a work or as little as you'd like, or as you feel comfortable submitting for review, regardless of its stage of development.



• Use your own discretion when considering the content of your submissions. Art can take many forms, and we consider ourselves a fairly open-minded group, so don't be afraid to push the boundaries with your submissions. That being said, make sure before making a submission that its purpose is artistic, not incendiary or pointlessly offensive. If you know you're going to offend someone, have an explanation ready. Defend your work.

Finally, enjoy the site. It exists to showcase your talents, and to allow others the pleasure of sharing in our artistic endeavors.
